: There are some issues in the world we live in that seem untouchable. They often appear to hide in the crevices and shadows and rear their heads only for those who go searching. And there is one indisputable fact that is too often discounted: women are still marginalized around the world. As a feminist and a human rights activist, I made it the mission of 4WomenWorldwide to shed light on the challenges women face through education and discussion. Though they are not the same in gravity they are often similar in their injustice. There is something all women, from the U.S.A. to Zimbabwe, have in common. We are women. That sounds too obvious, but bear with me. We know what it’s like to be the more vulnerable sex and we know what it’s like to think, “that happened because I am a woman.” Violence against women is perhaps the most well-known or common issue facing women. But, in the developing world in particular, there are many other challenges that affect women on a greater scale and, sometimes, exclusively. Amid this tragedy, there is a noticeable movement occurring. I would even venture to say there is a change in the winds. Organizations like and others are empowering women everyday to change this landscape. Nicholas Kristof’s and Sheryl Wudunn’s book demonstrates the plight of women in the developing world and also the transformation that occurs when they are given the necessary tools to bring themselves and their families out of poverty. So take a journey with me. Be a part of this change. Read the news; follow their stories; raise your voice; and, above all else, don’t be afraid to get angry. One voice is not enough. There is hope and awareness in the trauma and tragedy. By creating a forum for discussion and education, I hope that I will move you to take action on, talk about, and write about these issues so that more people pay attention. This is for the survival of our planet and the integral role women play in its transformation. The mission of this website is “to raise awareness of under-reported global women’s issues. To be a resource for people to learn about women’s rights violations and demonstrate that everyone can contribute to the road to gender equality.
